Tŝilhqot’in National Government honours life and legacy of Murray Sinclair
The Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is honouring the life and legacy of former senator Murray Sinclair who was a profound voice for Indigenous rights in Canada. As a former Senator, judge, and chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Sinclair is a true hero and example of drawing power from our Indigenous values and ways of being while standing up against ongoing forms of injustice.
Sinclair shed light on the painful legacy of the Residential School System and paved the way for healing among us all, in unity. The unwavering strength and resiliency of Indigenous peoples will carry on in the absence of Sinclair but his legacy will never be forgotten
“Murray Sinclair often said that reconciliation will require commitment from all of us, for lifetimes, to achieve. These are words that we, as Tŝilhqot’in, will carry with us and continue to fight for. Indigenous rights and title need to be recognized by Canada. Racist systems and policies continue to shape the future of our people. We will continue the vital work of creating a just future for all Indigenous people in Canada. Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all those whose lives he touched. We extend our deepest condolences and gratitude for the remarkable life of Murray Sinclair.”
