Tŝilhqot’in National Government Mining Department

The Mining department at TNG coordinates engagement between Tŝilhqot’in communities and all mining proponents within the Tŝilhqot’in territory. The Mining Department coordinates review of and engagement for mineral, oil and gas exploration and development proposals within Tŝilhqot’in territory.

The Mining Department works closely with the communities and proponents to ensure that Tŝilhqot’in values are respected at all stages of exploration, and assists with negotiations when proponents seek to develop projects in the territory. 

Mining Policy

The Tŝilhqot’in National Government Mining Policy affirms Tŝilhqot’in jurisdiction over mineral resources in its territory, its responsibilities to protect Tŝilhqot’in nen (lands and resources) for future generations, and outlines how responsible mining may occur in Tŝilhqot’in territory. The draft policy underwent public engagement in 2014 and has been in practice since that time.

Mining Information

Gibraltar Mine Ltd. is located 60 km north of Williams Lake within the Tŝilhqot’in territory and the caretaker area of ʔEsdilagh First Nation. It is the second largest gold-copper mine in Canada. For more information, please go here.
