Tŝilhqot’in Launch Online Cultural Awareness Course
The Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is launching an online training component to the in-person training known as Nenqayni Ch’ih Deni Wedli (Let’s Live Indigenous), looking at the history of Canada through a Tŝilhqot’in lens. This powerful and unique self-paced training allows organizations and individuals to understand how history has shaped Tŝilhqot’in worldviews today and what culture means to the Tŝilhqot’in people.
Funding for this program was provided by the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs
(UBCIC) in the wake of the devastating 2017 wildfires and tensions experienced with government and other agencies operating in Tŝilhqot’in communities. The training was developed and will be facilitated with Deyen Consulting Founder, Chastity Davis-Alphonse.
“For many years we have been calling on government and industry to take steps to understand Tŝilhqot’in ways of life and our value systems. This training was co-created by our people to fill the gap in Indigenous-led education. The online training will complement the in-person training by allowing people to learn at their own speed and when it fits their schedules. We encourage everyone living in the area to take this training and learn about our history and why we are the way we are.”

“The Nenqayni Ch’ih Deni Wedli online training was co-created to provide learners with an opportunity to learn at their own pace while still receiving powerful knowledge, stories, and wisdom from Tŝilhqot’in Knowledge Keepers.”
